Tracing back to 1735, when King George II established the Royal Stud at Celle in Lower Saxony, Germany, the Hanoverian was bred to combine the power of the heavy German stallion with the refinement of the Thoroughbred. What emerged was a horse of extraordinary versatility: athletic enough to clear great heights, sensitive enough to respond to the lightest aid, and floaty enough to make every stride look effortless.
