The mare
Amy arrived in Lily’s life the way the best horses do — not with fanfare, but with quiet certainty. She is a bay Hanoverian Warmblood mare, fifteen and three hands of compact, athletic elegance, and from the moment Lily first sat on her, something clicked.
The Hanoverian is not just a breed — it is the result of nearly three centuries of deliberate refinement. Tracing back to 1735, when King George II established the Royal Stud at Celle in Lower Saxony, Germany, the Hanoverian was bred to combine the power of the heavy German stallion with the refinement of the Thoroughbred. What emerged was a horse of extraordinary versatility: athletic enough to clear great heights, sensitive enough to respond to the lightest aid, and floaty enough to make every stride look effortless.
Amy is the living proof. She carries herself with a kind of self-assured elegance that only the very best sport mares have. Her trot is elevated and elastic — the kind that makes experienced horsewomen stop and watch. Hanoverians are known for movement that seems to defy gravity at the trot, and Amy has it in abundance.
“The Hanoverian is not just a horse. It is a legacy. Centuries of breeding distilled into four hooves, a willing heart, and a stride that takes your breath away.”On the Hanoverian Warmblood
Her character
What sets Amy apart from a merely talented horse is her intelligence. She reads her rider. She figures things out. She anticipates. She is the kind of mare that experienced riders trust with the details — because she will handle them with a grace that can only come from genuine understanding.
She loves to jump. That becomes obvious the moment she catches sight of a fence — her ears prick forward, her whole body lifts with energy. She knows exactly what she was built for, and she is happy doing it. Off course she is a joy in the barn: attentive, curious, and responsive to the people she knows and loves.
Lily has been riding Amy for several years now, and that time has built something rare — a partnership where each understands the other without having to say a word. In the ring, Lily brings the plan. Amy brings the power, the care, and the intelligence to carry it out.
In the ring
The Devon Horse Show — held each spring in Devon, Pennsylvania — is one of the oldest and most prestigious outdoor equestrian events in North America. To show at Devon is to stand in a ring that has held champions for over a century. Amy held her own.
“Big heart. Big stride. Big dreams. Amy doesn’t just carry Lily — she carries the whole vision of what this partnership can be.”Amy · Bay Hanoverian Warmblood · Lily’s partner in the ring
